How does Lunar New Year Bless you?

Hi Thriver!

How does the Lunar New Year help us draw in abundance?

Worldwide statics show that approximately 2 billion people in over 160 countries celebrate Christmas. Likewise, according to China Highlights, 2 billion people also celebrate Lunar New Year in some way.

It seems to me that so many people know the traditions surrounding Christmas while less traditions seems to be known about Lunar New Year, despite these holidays being equally celebrated. As such, I decided I wanted to research and study these traditions to review together with you here and on my podcast tomorrow.

This year, Lunar New Year Day falls on February 10, 2024, beginning with the Lunar New Year's Eve on February 9th in alignment with the new moon and the welcoming in of spring. This festival lasts 15 days until we are blessed by the full moon, the Full Snow Moon, on Feb 24th which is celebrated with the releasing of lanterns basking in the light of the full moon and celebrating family. This day is meant to bless the togetherness of the family.

Every lunar new year welcomes in the energy of the next zodiac calendar animal sign, the energy that pervades in the coming year. There are 12 zodiac animal signs which flow in the following order:

Rat, OX, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

2024 is the year of the Dragon.

The palpable energy of the year is depicted by the Zodiac animal’s personality. This year is the year of the dragon and the dragon draws in great energy for success, initiating new projects, exploring opportunities, and creating value for oneself and others.

Fairly known traditions include the donning of the color red and giving gifts of money in paired bills (avoiding gifting $4 & $40 as a gift) in red envelopes. However, there are many fascinating traditions to this holiday that I cover in tomorrow's Love.Heal.Thrive. podcast, How will Lunar New Year Bless you?

One of my most favorite traditions includes refraining from sweeping the floor or throwing out the garbage. You don't have to ask me twice to hold off doing housework for 2 days! :)

The tradition advises to sweep your floors, dust and take out the garbage this Thursday, February 8th so you can avoid sweeping and taking out the garbage on February 9th & February 10th.

  • Dust itself is old stagnant energy. By clearing this energy out, we make room for the new energy of the new year.

  • Sweeping represents sweeping wealth away during this window and

  • Taking the garbage out represents dumping out good luck or fortune from the house.

After last years Unbirthday Celebration and experiencing my year of fate this year, my Ben Ming Nian year, I am leaning into the good energy and fortune these traditions draw into my life. I am so excited to honor this holiday in a new and different way than I have in the past and invite you to celebrate too!

I look forward to diving into, How Will Lunar New Year Bless You?  with you tomorrow!

Happy Lunar New Year and Happy Year of the Dragon!

Much love,
Erin
